On the Ground Now
PowerField Energy’s PowerRack saves you time, money, and land. Across the globe, installers are choosing PowerRack to save up to 20% on full project costs. They are also maximizing power density per acre, allowing installs that were once impossible for ground mounted systems. All while unlocking the circularity of a cradle-to-cradle racking solution. See some of our current installations on the map below, and check back often as we’re adding new ones all the time!
Case Studies
PowerField established itself in 2018 with a test installation at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) National Wind Testing Center. The success of that demonstration immediately led to word-of-mouth sales across Colorado and beyond. Soon we were doing a 210kW system for Holy Cross Energy, the rural electric cooperative in Glenwood Springs, CO, as a semi-turn-key “solar farm raising” installation built entirely by Holy Cross employees and local volunteers as a community engagement initiative.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
- First-ever system installed at NREL in Boulder, CO.
- 15 kilowatt (kW) system (PowerRacks, ballast material, solar panels) installed with untrained volunteers and unskilled labor in 4.5 hours with no ground preparation.
- PowerField system was proven durable in the field for over 2 years in winds up to 84 mph while other well-known systems were severely damaged by those same winds.
- NREL liked PowerField’s system so much that they bought it in September of 2019! Additionally, NREL has asked PowerField to partner with them on much larger installations with other large companies which could be strategic for PowerField (e.g. GE, Siemens, and other wind turbine and battery developers and manufacturers).
- PowerField conducted a separate test at NREL to demonstrate the system’s efficiency of electrical output compared to other systems on the rooftop of NREL’s Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF). This test showed PowerField’s system to be as efficient, if not slightly better, than tradition mounting systems. PowerField has a separate rooftop version of its system that has been prototyped and is patent pending. Peter, the NREL researcher in the picture to the right, said when we installed the small test system on NREL’s rooftop, “That was easy. We installed the PowerField system in way less time that it took to even disassemble the other system!”
Holy Cross Energy in Glenwood Springs, Colorado
- Installed first-ever commercial scale 210 kW / 545 panel system in just 2 days at the headquarters of Holy Cross Energy in Glenwood Springs, CO.
- Holy Cross Energy is a rural electric cooperative with over 43,000 customers. In addition to Glenwood Springs, Holy Cross Energy serves the surrounding areas of Aspen and Vail.
- PowerField sold the system installation as a part of a “Solar Farm Raising” together with the cooperative that included Holy Cross Energy staff, low-skilled day laborers and community volunteers.
- Holy Cross Energy’s Board Members were very pleased with the process and product and have since began to open other doors for PowerField in their networks.
